I recently went to Old Navy to get some more pants. I found that they hardly have any tall or short sizes any more. I checked online and found the same problem. They only have corduroys in one length. Thus, they were 3 inches too long on me, as I am petite.
The picture above shows my jeans (which had already been altered in length when I got them at a resale shop) compared to the new cords.
After turning the corduroys inside out, I lined up the bottom hems and cut off 2 inches. Then, I measured an additional inch, and that was the line I used to fold up the new hem. I folded it under and sewed it in place. When you use a contrasting colored thread, it looks more like the original hem.
1. If raising the hem 3 inches, you cut off 2 inches.
2. Next, you fold up an additional 1 inch to make your hem.
The 2 + 1 equals the 3 inches you needed.
