I recently had the opportunity to make a t-shirt quilt for my friend’s sister. Over several posts, I’m going to detail the steps I took to make the quilt.
To make a twin-size quilt, you will need 12 t-shirts. It helps to take some of them to the fabric store to help you pick out coordinating fabric. These t-shirts had dark greens, browns, burnt oranges, reds, pinks, etc., so we selected black for inner borders, turquoise for corners, and black with multi-colored circles for the outer border and backing.
You will need tricot fusible interfacing. This will keep the t-shirts from stretching.
If you really want to see how things look, spread out the shirts and fabric on the floor or a table at the fabric store, then take a picture on your cell phone or a digital camera. This way, you get a different viewpoint of how things might look.
You will also need a 12.5 x 12.5 quilting ruler. The ruler makes your life a lot easier.
